Experience
Mr. Cleveland was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1998, along with admission to the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and joined Hogan Marren, Ltd. in 1998. Since joining Hogan Marren, Mr. Cleveland has been directly engaged in collective bargaining, grievance and dispute resolution, contract enforcement, wage and hour disputes, trust fund issues, including collection of delinquent contributions, and fiduciary issues in the labor industry. Mr. Cleveland has represented clients in Arbitrations, as well as in hearings and matters before the National Labor Relations Board, Illinois Public Labor Relations Board, the City of Chicago Human Resources Board, as well as other state and local governmental agencies. Additionally, Mr. Cleveland has worked with clients regarding employment practices and discrimination, including advising clients on matters related to Title VII, Americans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Family Medical Leave Act and the Illinois Human Rights Act before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Human Rights and Chicago Commission on Human Rights. Mr. Cleveland has worked on federal cases in the Northern District of Illinois covering a broad range of legal issues, and regularly conducts business before the Circuit Courts of Cook County, as well as the collar county courts. Mr. Cleveland has also developed and refined his knowledge of hospital board of directors and medical staff issues, as well as facility compliance and complex real estate transactions. Mr. Cleveland has also represented a number of health care related not-for-profit and charitable organizations. In fact, Mr. Cleveland was unanimously selected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Loretto Hospital Foundation, which is a not-for-profit organization established to aid and assist Loretto Hospital in providing essential equipment, services and programs to the Austin community located in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to joining Hogan Marren, Mr. Cleveland worked as a law clerk for the Office of Legal Affairs for Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center where he gained valuable experience on a variety of in-house legal issues in the health care industry. He was also a legal intern for the Honorable Charles R. Norgle, Sr., of the United States District Court for Northern District of Illinois.
Education
Mr. Cleveland received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, and his law degree, cum laude, from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois, where he was on the Board of Editors for The John Marshall Law Review.
Professional Memberships/Activities
Mr. Cleveland currently serves on the adjunct faculty at The John Marshall Law School, where he teaches legal writing and an appellate advocacy and drafting course to first and second year law students. He is also in the process of developing legal drafting courses specifically related to labor and employment. Mr. Cleveland uses his teaching experiences to provide education seminars to medical staffs on current developments in health care, as well as labor unions on topics such as the responsibilities of union stewards and job referral rules.
Mr. Cleveland’s professional memberships include the American Health Lawyers Association, Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys, the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee, the Chicago Bar, Illinois State Bar and American Bar Associations.
Mr. Cleveland serves as the youngest member of the Board of Directors for the Loretto Hospital Foundation located in Chicago, Illinois.

Mr. Cleveland published an article in The John Marshall Law Review entitled “Title VII and Negative Job References: Employees Find Safe Harbor in Robinson v. Shell Oil Company.”.
Mr. Cleveland presented to a group of 100+ physicians from Puerto Rico on Anti-Trust Issues in Healthcare. Mr. Cleveland presented to a group of 30 labor attorneys regarding Electronic Discovery Issues.
